Out of curiousity guys

Is the 3x3 Deadlift listed before the WOD an additional part of the WOD? Or is that extra programming for those looking to increase Strength?

Andrew McGilvray

I took it as a heavy warmup to the WOD so you know how to scale the 63 deadlifts .. im GUESSING we would scale to around 70% of the 3x3 ..

Tom

Ah fair enough, so you would go heavy on the 3x3 but maybe not attempt a 3RM?

Danny M

Tom, the first part of the WOD, the 3x3, is done as a strength training focus. Rest in-between sets as required, in order to shift as much load as you can with sound mechanics. This should feel like a strength workout, albeit a short one.
Take approximately 60-65% of your best lift and use that for the met-con WOD ie. if your best lift for 3 was 100, then 100 is probably not the best choice for 21 reps. Use 60-65kg.
Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks heaps Danny. I'm looking at doing a bit of strength training myself after reading the CFSB journal article and was interested in how other Affiliates may be programming their strength work.

Fitness in 100 words

  • “Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, c&j, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports. ”
