Fitness in 100 words

  • “Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, c&j, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports. ”

That was a great example of frustration meeting exhilaration. One of those WOD's that it feels good to accomplish but maddening in that I rested more than I wanted. The pullups were hell and falling off the bar doing 3 at a time is one of the reasons I shave my head - avoids the temptation of pulling out frustrated hands-full.... really want to video it next time and actually add up the time spent doing nothing... huge thanks to Dan, Tom and AP for the encouragement/abuse/cajoling thru the thrusters and pullups.. i really could appreciate it thru the wall of pain... If anyone saw the bio of the 51 y/o guy on the HQ site yesterday it mentioned he has a 9.14 Jackie... I now have an addition to my goal sheet.. want a sub 10 minute Fran AND now a sub 10 minute Jackie.... gotta gotta gotta build my capacity for next years Masters...

The transition from rowing machine to thrusters was fun....not! Awesome work Lyndon!!!! 50 pullups!!! :)

Cassius

Owing to over enthusiasm, some of the scores were wiped from the 5am session before they were recorded. So if you know what you got, please post it.

Just wanted to say thanks to team 3 for helping me through this morning! Thanks Oz for counting down my rest times, otherwise I probably wouldn't have gotten through so quickly!

Cheers

Just want to send a huge thank you to Danny and the midday crew. Your encouragement today was greatly appreciated. Even though I am sure my face did not show it at the time :) Special thanks to Brian, after his cracking time he counted me through all my reps. I was seeing stars after the row and could barely stand let alone count! Thank you for getting me to the finish line.
Cheers, Jodie

Nursing a sore knee and resting lower body today but wanted to do something so I did bench press today for the first time since I have been CrossFitting and prior to that I was doing high reps with 20kg, so to prove that CrossFit makes you stronger I did Bench Press 3-3-3-3-3-3-3 (65-82.5kg).

Warm up sets started working 10x 20kg then sets of 5s from 30kg upto 60kg then first working set of 3 at 65kg upto a 3 rep max of 82.5kg. So heaviest I had previously ever pressed was 40kg some years ago and I haven't done bench press in the 10months I've been CrossFitting so yet more evidence that CrossFit makes you stronger. We finished with max reps push ups and sit ups.

Brad

Good work sharif! I was pretty happy I hit a decent bench the other day too. We do a fair amount of push ups and other pressing sort of stuff so there should be some carry over to other pressing related movements. if u hit 20 plus reps on 225lbs you will be comparable to some awesomely athletic guys too in the NFL which is a decent yardstick :-)

Miles

Great Work Liz - i could see you had your game face on this morning when you came in :)
Also nice work Matt R
Thanks Danny for pushing the intensity and the form in us all

Narelle

A thank you to the 5am Team 4 support crew! Their words of encouragement during the row ranged from "great going, keep the pace under 1:50" through to "um, well, just try not to stop ... again." Ugh.

liz

Thanks Miles - I hope that's not code for I didn't say good morning :-)

Your score is a cracker. I was just happy to go rxd - I'm sure the thrill of being able to do pullups in a workout will wear off soon, but so far it is a total buzz!
