CrossFit Brisbane had 136 athlete’s contest this years open, gaining us the status of largest Team in the Region. In achieving this we have secured 136 free tickets to the Regionals in Wooloongong on the 18th – 20th of May. Well done CFB.
This was the first year where our coaches and athletes put some concerted effort into preparing for competition, and we are very proud of the results that have been achieved. We had 4 men secure individual places at the Regionals, Natan Geva (17th), Jonnie Larmore (37th), Matt Horrocks (40th), and Jacob Frampton (58th). Congratulations to these athletes! This was an improvement from having only one qualifier last year. Although the girls weren’t able to hold off the high quality competition to stay in the top 60, we had some solid performances with our top results being Lily Cosgrove in 77th, Alana Biggam in 98th and Emma Keogh in 103rd.
Last year our Team just scraped a place at Regionals finishing in 20th place overall. This year we finished 7th which is an outstanding improvement. What is really satisfying is the large number of different athletes who contributed to this result, showing that we have depth across the board.
We are also very proud of our Master’s athletes who had the tough job of fighting to finish top 20 in the World. Our best result was from our spritely Helen Brennan who finished 44th in the World in the 60+ category. Special mention also goes to Janelle Kohn who finished 116th in the 55+. These ladies are tough and pulled out some amazing personal best’s to achieve their results. Tim Harris was our best male Master’s performer, finishing 166th in the World in the 55+. Our Master’s athletes are already planning their training to be even better for next year.
The Open gave us a chance to compare ourselves to CrossFitter’s from around the World. It showed that we all have fighting spirit, and the ability to find something that we didn’t really know we had, just to go that little bit harder, higher, heavier or faster in the pursuit of a goal. Let’s take what we learned and bring that to the Box every day.
To the athletes that will be going on to the Regionals to represent CFB in the Individual and Team competition, keep pushing and give everything you have got, CFB will be behind you and cheering you on.
To the athletes that missed out, what happens next is important. Reflect on your experience, let it go and let's start preparing for 2013. We will be stronger, faster, better.
Congratulations CFB on an Open well done. See you at the Pineapple Hotel to celebrate the close.
