Starting your fitness journey can feel like learning a new language while trying to rub your head and pat your tummy. If you have just signed up for our CrossFit Kickstarter, welcome to the community. We are not here to turn you into a professional athlete overnight; we are here to help you build a body that is resilient and ready for whatever life throws at you.
Here is exactly what you can expect during your first week at the box.
1. Mastering The Basics
Your first week is all about the Intro Sessions. You will not be expected to be the fastest or strongest person in the room. Instead, your goal is simply to master functional movements, the things your body was designed to do, like sitting down, picking things up, and reaching overhead.
- Intro Session 1: Focuses on fundamental bodyweight movements like the squat, push up, and pull up.
- Intro Session 2: Introduces the clean and the jerk, teaching you how to generate power from your hips.
- Intro Session 3: Covers technical skills like the snatch, overhead squat, and rope climbs.
2. Tracking Your Starting Point
To see how far you have come, we need to know where you started. During your first week, you will complete your Day 1 Baseline In-Body Scan. This gives us a measurable picture of your starting point and helps shape your roadmap forward.
- Weight
- Body Fat %
- Muscle Mass
- BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
We will also ask you to identify your Motivation Anchor, the specific reason you walked through our doors, so you have something solid to return to when the work gets tough.
3. Learning The Gym Code
Every community has its culture. In our box, we live by a few simple standards that keep the environment respectful, supportive, and high-energy.
- The On-Time Policy: Please arrive 5 minutes early.
- Finish Together: We cheer for every member until the last person finishes the workout. No packing up early.
- The PR Bell: When you hit a personal best, ring the bell so we can celebrate with you.
- No Phones: Digital distractions stay at reception so you can focus on your movement.
4. Speaking The Language
You will hear some strange acronyms in your first week. Do not worry, you will catch on quickly.
- WOD: Workout of the Day.
- AMRAP: As Many Rounds or Reps as Possible.
- Scaled: A version of the workout modified to your current ability level.
- Box: That is us, a CrossFit gym.
The Commitment
As owner Ross Barclay says, it will not always be easy, but if you show up and check your ego at the door, you will see results that are measurable, observable, and repeatable.
The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.
See you on the floor.
